Batch Bates Numbering

Add Bates numbers to several PDFs with one continuous counter. You get a ZIP of numbered files and a CSV index of the number ranges.

Two PDFs with three labeled pages each. With prefix DOC- from 1, the first file should get DOC-000001 to DOC-000003 and the second DOC-000004 to DOC-000006, as listed in bates-index.csv.

Your documents stay on this device. Tool downloads and usage statistics do not include file contents.

A practical guide

Number a whole set of files in sequence.

  1. Add the PDFs and put them in the order for the counter.
  2. Enter the prefix, suffix, starting number and digit count.
  3. Run the task, then open the ZIP and the CSV index.

Try this example

Three PDFs have 10, 25 and 5 pages. With the start 1, the numbers run from 1 to 40 across the files, and the CSV lists the first and last number of each.

Before you start: Up to 50 files of 10 MB each, 60 MB and 1,000 pages in total. Counters stop at 999,999,999. Check the order of the files before you run the task.

Limits and important details

Up to 50 PDFs, 10 MB each, 60 MB and 1,000 pages in total. Prefix up to 24 printable ASCII characters, suffix up to 16, 1-9 digits and counters up to 999,999,999.

Example

Number the two sample PDFs with prefix DOC- from 1: the first gets DOC-000001 to DOC-000003 and the second DOC-000004 to DOC-000006, as listed in bates-index.csv.
