Your files stay on your device

File processing runs in your browser. Documents are not uploaded to our servers. The site may download processing engines and send usage or feedback events without file contents.

How we handle your data

Office to PDF/A

Office to PDF/A: convert Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OpenDocument or RTF files into an archival PDF/A-2b file on your device. Your file stays in your browser.

Choose your document

Choose a DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, DOC, XLS, PPT, ODT, ODS, ODP or RTF file and convert it to PDF/A. The first conversion prepares the local Office engine and may take a moment; the next file on this page is faster.

Local limit: 10 MiB per document

Choose a document, then convert it to PDF/A.

Processing happens on this device. Keep this tab open until your PDF/A is ready.

Try an example

A two-page PDF/A-2b file with embedded fonts, the amount 148.50 and Russian text. Archive validators may apply stricter rules; check yours if compliance is mandatory.

Download sample DOCX

Select the downloaded sample and convert it. A two-page PDF/A-2b file with embedded fonts, the amount 148.50 and Russian text. Archive validators may apply stricter rules; check yours if compliance is mandatory.

What to expect

Text, images and page layout are converted together. Fonts and complex formatting may differ from your Office editor; check your PDF before sharing.

The PDF is saved as PDF/A-2b for long-term archiving: fonts are embedded, the color profile is included and the file identifies itself as PDF/A. Spreadsheets are fitted to one page width. This page does not run a formal PDF/A validator; if your archive requires proof of compliance, check the file with its validator.

Large documents may exceed your device’s available memory. If conversion fails, try a smaller document or another device.

Help with conversion

The converter does not start

Check your connection while the converter prepares itself, then retry. This converter needs a modern browser and sufficient memory.

My document could not be converted

Open the document in your editor and save a new copy. Password-protected, damaged or unsupported files may fail. The input limit is 10 MiB and the PDF output limit is 20 MiB.

Processing takes too long

Preparing the converter stops after two minutes; conversion stops after one minute. You can cancel during processing and restart with a smaller document.

A practical guide

Create a PDF/A archive copy.

  1. Open a Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OpenDocument or RTF file.
  2. Start the conversion to PDF/A-2b and wait for the file to be ready.
  3. Download the PDF and open it to check pages, fonts and text.

Try this example

Convert a 12-page DOCX agreement into PDF/A-2b for a records folder, then check that every page and the signature table are present.

Before you start: The file follows PDF/A-2b, but strict archive validators may apply further rules. If compliance is required, test the result with your validator.
