How we handle your data

Remove PDF Metadata

Remove PDF metadata such as the title, author and subject fields before you share a file. Save a clean copy of the document.

Title: Sample report; author: LaboratorU sample. Clear standard metadata, then inspect the downloaded file. This is not a complete privacy cleanup.

A practical guide

Clear the information fields of a file.

  1. Add one PDF.
  2. Check which information fields will be cleared.
  3. Run the task and keep the cleaned copy.

Try this example

A report you exported carries your name in the author field. Clear the fields and send the copy without that name in its properties.

Before

  • Title / Author

After

  • Supported fields cleared
Input and expected output for this task. Illustrative example.

Before you start: This is not full sanitization. XMP data, attachments and hidden content can remain. Keep the original and check the result.

Check the remaining metadata
What you get

Clear standard document information fields. This is not full sanitization.

Limits and important details

Not full sanitization: XMP, attachments, annotations, actions, hidden content and text inside pages may remain. Existing digital signatures may be invalidated. Keep the original.

Example

After clearing, choose Latest PDF result in Inspect Metadata and review the standard fields. Do not treat an empty Author field as proof that all personal information was removed.
