A practical guide

Read the properties of a document.

  1. Add one PDF.
  2. Read the standard fields in the result.
  3. Copy the values you need, or open Edit PDF Metadata to change them.

Try this example

A report arrived from a colleague with an unknown origin. Open it here to read the author, the creating program and the date of the last change.

Before

  • Report.pdf

After

  • Title / Author fields
Input and expected output for this task. Illustrative example.

Before you start: Only the standard information fields are shown. An empty field does not prove that a file holds no personal data. This is not a security check.

Edit standard metadata fields
What you get

Inspect standard PDF information fields locally. This is not a complete security or privacy audit.

Limits and important details

Editing: 10 MiB, 200 pages, 2048 characters per field, 20 MiB output. Dates use UTC timestamps. XMP and other metadata are not synchronized or sanitized. Digital signatures may be invalidated. Inspection does not certify a document is safe or enumerate every attachment, script or hidden object. File names and report text remain local.

Example

Inspect a report and review its standard title and author. Empty fields do not prove the file contains no private information.
