A practical guide
Copy the text out of a PDF.
- Add a PDF that contains selectable text.
- Run the task to extract the text.
- Open the TXT file and check the reading order.
Try this example
A 9-page bank statement is hard to copy from a viewer. Extract it and you get a TXT file that you can search for a payment reference.
Before
- Selectable PDF text
After
- Plain text .txt
Before you start: A scanned PDF has no text layer, so an error is shown. Reading order may differ from the layout; this is not OCR.
Continue with the source PDFWhat you get
Extract embedded text into a TXT file. Scanned pages need OCR; source reading order may differ from the visible layout.
Limits and important details
Maximum 10 MiB input, 200 pages and 4 MiB text output. Scanned documents without a text layer report an error instead of a fake successful extraction. Reading order, columns and fonts may not match visual layout. This is not OCR or PDF-to-Word.
Example
Extract text from a searchable report, review it in the result field and copy or download it. Original PDFs remain available after the text result.
